YouTube adds K-Pop as one of the listed music genre
In early November, Koreaboo reported regarding Google Executive Chairman Eric Schmidt's plans to create a K-Pop channel on YouTube. He met with South Korea's President, where Schmidt said, "The channel on Google’s free video site would help spread the 'Korean Wave' and cement ties between the world’s largest search engine operator and South Korea."
Over the past few years, the K-Pop and Hallyu Wave impact internationally has gained much attention, resulting in K-Pop concerts and showcases expanding further from Asian and into the United States, Australia, Canada, London, Paris, and most recently, Brazil.
The "K-Pop" genre has now been added under YouTube's Music options, along with R&B, Latin, Rap, Reggae, and others.
K-Pop has begun to grab the attention of people all over the world, as seen in successful overseas concert, as well as collaborations like 2NE1 and Black Eyed Peas' will.i.am, Girls' Generation, Rania and Teddy Riley, and more.
Recently, a local Hawaii FM radio station also debuted its K-Pop channel, further showing the expansion of the worldwide K-Pop craze.
